McCoist makes ‘complete nonsense’ Postecoglou claim after latest Tottenham comments
Ally McCoist has leapt to Ange Postecoglou’s defence after Tottenham Hotspur suffered yet another Premier League defeat.
Fulham are the latest team to get one over on Spurs, beating them 2-0 at Craven Cottage on Sunday to consign Postecoglou’s side to a 15th league defeat in 29 games – a losing rate of over 50 per cent.
Rodrigo Muniz and former Tottenham defender Ryan Sessegnon’s second-half strikes proved to be the difference in West London, and a close to full-strength Tottenham side had no answer at the other end.
As a result, Postecoglou’s short-term future is under heavy scrutiny once again, and after the Australian launched an impassioned self-defence post-match, it remains to be seen what Daniel Levy will decide.

McCoist dismisses ‘nonsense’ Postecoglou claims at Tottenham
Postecoglou hitting back at claims that he’s out of his depth is understandable given the 59-year-old’s 29 years of experience as a manager, but doing so in the face of frequent defeats isn’t a good look.
Competition | Games | Won | Drawn | Lost | Scored | Conceded | Win Rate |
Premier League | 29 | 10 | 4 | 15 | 55 | 43 | 34.5% |
EFL Cup | 5 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 9 | 9 | 80% |
FA Cup | 2 | 1 (aet) | 0 | 1 | 4 | 2 | 50% |
Europa League | 10 | 6 | 2 | 2 | 20 | 11 | 60% |
Total | 46 | 21 | 6 | 19 | 88 | 65 | 45.65% |
That sentiment was shared by Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend on talkSPORT (17 March, 8:54am), who agreed that while Postecoglou can turn things around, he needs to maintain his composure in the media.
“I think he’s right to a point”, McCoist said; “For people to say that he’s out of his depth, [and] he doesn’t know what he’s doing, is nonsense – that’s complete nonsense.”
Townsend added: “He’s not handling the press situation particularly well – he should be smarter than this I think, Ange, the way he’s going about it.”

Postecoglou putting off his backers as Tottenham slump continues
Although Postecoglou’s style of play – both since his arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and beforehand – has drawn many plaudits, but more and more teams are working him out this season.
Their 15 Premier League losses have been followed up by a further two on the continent and one each to exit the EFL and FA Cups respectively, leaving the Europa League as their sole chance of silverware.
Even going all the way to the final in Bilbao and returning to North London with the trophy in hand wouldn’t mask a dismal domestic campaign, which sees Tottenham languishing a lowly 14th in the table.
Champions League qualification from such a position would indeed be a feather in the Australian’s cap, but Postecoglou has arguably run out of lives already when it comes to saving his job long-term.
