Mauricio Pochettino ‘to stay away from Tottenham’ as frustrating claim made

Tottenham may soon have to replace Ange Postcoglou, with Mauricio Pochettino seen as a contender to return as the next manager.

The Australian head coach has endured a difficult season at the North London outfit as they sit 14th in the Premier League table.

Daniel Levy may soon pull the plug on Postecoglou’s tenure after what’s happened over the course of this season.

The Lilywhites extended their winless run to four games in the English top flight after losing 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday (3 April), and the former Celtic boss’ departure seems closer.

Tottenham past to factor in Pochettino decision

Pochettino shouldn’t go anywhere near the Spurs job to replace Postecoglou, Stan Collymore says.

The former Aston Villa ace believes the current USA national team manager should stay away from the North London outfit amid links of a return.

Collymore saw the Argentine manager’s frustrations before he left the Lilywhites and feels little has changed since then.

In CaughtOffside (4 April), the ex-forward wrote: “There have been rumours of Mauricio Pochettino possibly making a return to Tottenham, having seemingly held talks with Daniel Levy. But if I were him, I wouldn’t go anywhere near his former club, as I think very little has changed from when he left in 2019.

“I was at the Champions League final that year when Liverpool defeated them, and I remember very clearly how frustrated he was with the club after that.”

Daniel Levy needs Pochettino at Spurs

Daniel Levy was pictured with Pochettino recently, leading to speculation about whether a return could possibly be on the cards.

The Argentine head coach enjoyed a relatively successful spell at the North London outfit, leading them to the Champions League final.

Spurs also consistently challenged for the top four under the United States head coach, and fans would undoubtedly embrace his appointment.

Postecoglou’s time at Tottenham seems to be coming to an end, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him leave before the end of the season.

The Australian manager hasn’t been able to get the best out of the North London outfit in the current campaign, and he’s been stubborn with his tactics.

Many supporters wouldn’t mind seeing the former Celtic boss replaced, but the next head coach needs to be someone capable of taking the Lilywhites forward.

Pochettino feels like the right option if Levy were to sack Postecoglou, and the Argentine national’s time at Chelsea showcased his managerial nous.

The Europa League is Spurs’ only salvation this season, but considering their recent performances, Eintracht Frankfurt will relish the quarter-final tie.
