Mauricio Pochettino appointment: Tottenham told hire is ‘Disrespectful’ with contract
Tottenham have been told that hiring Mauricio Pochettino would be “disrespectful” to both him and his current employers.
Off the back of another dreadful result against Aston Villa, Ange Postecoglou is hanging on by a thread, with it surely only a matter of time until he faces the boot.
Tottenham have endured a horrid season, and while injuries have certainly played a part, Postecoglou’s stubbornness has been the main driving force behind their failures this campaign.
The Australian has failed to adapt to the situation he finds himself in, with players looking completely devoid of confidence and ideas.
If a decision is to be made, Spurs will be looking for a new boss but may have to look past one particular candidate to avoid being seen as disrespectful.
Mauricio Pochettino potential appointment slammed
With Postecoglou seemingly edging towards the exit door, Pochettino has emerged as a potential candidate to replace him, but Ramon Vega believes it would be a poor decision.
The former Spurs defender took to X (9 February) to give his reasoning as to why the Argentine should not be approached for the job.
“There’s no point in calling for Pochettino,” said Vega.
“He is already contracted and committed to USMNT, and it would be disrespectful both to USMNT and to him.
“He was sacked without proper support after achieving the remarkable feat of reaching the Champions League Final in Madrid. This was a significant opportunity to establish a real football project, but the board missed the chance and failed to support him.
“We are currently facing the revolving issue for years a lack of genuine support in the football department. Changing Ange will not solve anything. The solution lies in changing the mentality and commitment at the top regarding football.”
Ange Postecogolou is finished at Tottenham
That very sentence has been used on countless occasions this season, but there simply isn’t a way back for Postecogolou after the latest defeat.
Not only was the performance one of a dire nature, but it marked their second exit from a cup competition in the last week, all but ending any hopes they had of winning silverware.
Tottenham still have the Europa League, but given their constant regression and inability to perform when it matters, any success through that route feels like a fantasy.
Every week, Tottenham are seemingly getting worse and while Postecogolou shouldn’t be forced to shoulder the entire blame, he certainly has to take the overwhelming majority of it.
Daniel Levy needs to buck up his ideas and accept defeat in his quest to back the Austrailian if he truly wants the best for the club.
