Mathys Tel to Tottenham: Frontrunners emerge in transfer race as odds revealed
Tottenham are leading the race to sign Bayern Munich gem Mathys Tel as teams wanting to secure his signature continue to ramp up.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs had a director in attendance as the Bundesliga giants put Slovan Bratislava to the sword during a Champions League fixture on Wednesday 29 January.
A number of teams have emerged in the race for the 19-year-old winger, with the Lilywhites apparently in the lead at 13/8 favourites, as per Bet365, with his odds of staying in Germany rated at 16/1.
Manchester United, 7/2, Aston Villa, 5/1, and Arsenal, 6/1, are all seen as competitors for Ange Postecoglou’s side, who look to be nearing in on a deal for the talented France Under-21s international.
Tottenham recruitment clearly steering in wrong direction
Spurs’ constant links to brand-new attackers continue to baffle and amaze, with Postecoglou’s issues clearly in the centre of defence, especially when Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are sidelined.
While the latter looks to be nearing a return from injury, he is somewhat unreliable after suffering numerous injury setbacks since arriving in North London in August 2023.
The Lilywhites are crying out for reinforcements, with Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray teaming up in defence in recent weeks, but Daniel Levy refuses to dive into his pockets in this window.
Though Spurs have been linked with the likes of Milan Skriniar, he has now secured his move to Galatasaray, leaving Postecoglou blue in the face with the lack of signings made so far.

Of course, Tel is an extremely talented and sought-after player in European football, but with only Liverpool and Manchester City boasting more goals in the Premier League, the forward line is clearly not the main issue.
