Mathys Tel reveals what Harry Kane told him before Tottenham transfer
Harry Kane is still clearly working his magic after Tottenham landed the loan signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich during the winter transfer window.
In a season where Ange Postecoglou’s side have been hit with countless injuries, additions in the winter window were crucial to having a more successful second half of the season.
Although it was not necessarily the simplest deal to strike, Spurs did manage to agree a transfer with Bayern Munich to bring 19-year-old Tel in on loan.

Tel shares Kane message for Tottenham
It wasn’t the smoothest of paths to a deal for Tel during the winter window and Tottenham had to settle for a loan initially, despite being interested in a permanent move.
However, the Lilywhites did get their signing across the line as Tel left Germany where former Spurs man Kane was his teammate, to go the other way.
After making over 300 appearances for the North London outfit, it was natural that the youngster might look to Kane for advice on a potential move.
When asked what Kane told him about Tottenham, Tel told Football on TNT Sports: “Harry told me you will enjoy the training ground, it’s very, very, very good. If you need something just call me and I can help you.”
Kane helped sell Tottenham to Tel
Although it may sound as though Kane didn’t rave too much about his former club, his advice to Tel may have been what he needed to help sell the move.
You can understand why the striker would be reluctant to make a move away from a top side in Germany, where he is used to the best facilities and training, so hearing that this professionalism would be mirrored in England must have served as a benefit.
Appearances in all competitions | Goals | Assists | |
Bayern Munich | 14 | 0 | 1 |
Tottenham | 5 | 1 | 0 |
Furthermore, making the move overseas at 19 years old is daunting, so having the offer that his teammate would be available should he need anything will have eased the pressure.
Kane had a spectacular time in North London and it’s clear that he feels they are the right club to develop a promising young talent.
The striker has had a bit of a quiet start to life at Spurs, having made just three Premier League appearances with a goal yet to come, although he did net in the FA Cup.
However, given his age, you would expect Postescoglou and his team to be working hard with the player on the training ground to get him up to speed for top-flight football.
If Tel can get that first goal and find a bit of form between now and the end of the season, then Tottenham supporters could well expect to see much more of him next term.
