Mathys Tel rejects Tottenham after Daniel Levy got involved in talks

Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel has rejected a move to Tottenham, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Tottenham and Bayern Munich agreed a deal in principle over a £50million transfer for the 19-year-old on Thursday [via Le Parisien, 30 January], with Harry Kane expected to be involved in talks.

However, Romano has reported via his personal X account (31 January) that Tel has rejected the chance to sign for Tottenham after Daniel Levy travelled to Munich [via Fabrizio Romano, 31 January] to discuss the move with the player and his agent.

Barring any late surprises, Tel won’t be joining Spurs as other Premier League clubs now look to secure a deal.

This will come as a huge body blow to Ange Postecoglou.

While Spurs were able to agree a transfer with Bayern, Tel wasn’t convinced by joining the club, which highlights the poor position that Tottenham are in at the moment and the need for things to improve.

However, this will also come as a big blow to Levy. The Spurs chairman is under a lot of pressure right now, with fans growing tired of the club’s underwhelming transfer activity.

Therefore, securing a big-money transfer for one of the most promising young players in Europe would have taken a lot of heat off of Levy.

However, after talking to the player himself, the transfer fell apart, which isn’t a good look for the 62-year-old.

Spurs will now need to act quickly to get players in before 3 February. Otherwise, the pressure from fans in North London could seriously ramp up.
