Manchester United fans embarrass themselves after scenes during Tottenham defeat

Tottenham beat Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final, and things were made worse for the Red Devils after an embarrassing incident with their fans.

Ange Postecoglou and his players ended Spurs’ 17-year wait for a trophy on Wednesday (21 May) as they beat Manchester United 1-0 at the Estadio de San Mamés to win the Europa League.

Postecoglou stuck to his promise of winning a trophy in his second season in charge and became the first manager to win a trophy for Tottenham since Juande Ramos in 2008.

Spurs’ Europa League triumph means that the club will return to the UEFA Champions League next season, while United will be without European football for the first time since the 2014/15 season, which was embarrassing enough without an incident among their fans making things worse.

Man Utd fans left embarrassed after celebrating Amad Diallo miss

Manchester United face the prospect of finishing 17th in the Premier League if they lose against Aston Villa at Old Trafford, while Spurs beat Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (25 May).

It has been an embarrassing season for United supporters, who once again made a mockery of themselves during their defeat to Tottenham.

In footage shared to X by StokeyyG2 (22 May), United supporters were filmed celebrating Diallo’s first-half shot, thinking it had gone in, when it had in fact gone wide of the post.

The fans were filmed throwing beer before the limbs turned to hands on heads in a moment to forget.

Daniel Levy must decide on Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham

Tottenham’s Europa League win and return to the Champions League might be enough to convince chairman Levy to keep hold of Postecoglou.

Despite Spurs’ miserable Premier League campaign, fans would surely prefer to see Postecoglou use their victory in Bilbao to inspire the North London club to compete at the top end of the table next season.

After an injury-hit campaign, a full pre-season and added squad depth could help Spurs do just that. Therefore, Levy has a big decision to make.
