Man United warned they ‘risk Tottenham trap’ as new plans revealed
Tottenham are having a poor season this term, sitting 13th in the Premier League with only the Europa League left to play for.
As a result, Ange Postecoglou has found plenty of questions being asked of him, questioning whether he is the right man to progress the Lilywhites.
Daniel Levy has also come under plenty of criticism himself, as the chairman has been criticised for not putting enough backing into proceedings in North London.

Manchester United and Tottenham comparison made
Levy has got Tottenham in a strong financial position in terms of sustainability, and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium brings in plenty of other revenue to the club which can only be a good thing.
However, the chief also fails to put adequate money back into the club, which means while there is plenty of money there, that is not reaching the pitch and Tottenham are still struggling.
Spurs haven’t been too dissimilar to Manchester United this season, with both teams performing well below the expected levels and having just one thing left to play for.
Team | Position | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost | Goal difference | Points |
Tottenham | 13 | 28 | 10 | 4 | 14 | 14 | 34 |
Manchester United | 15 | 28 | 9 | 7 | 12 | -6 | 34 |
However, United have announced their plans to build a spectacular new stadium to replace Old Trafford, which is going to be reflective of a top team in England, something that feels a bit ironic right now.
It seems the ownership feel this will improve things by bringing in more supporters and more ways of making money.
However, writing for The Guardian (16 March), Jonathan Wilson has urged them to be careful of the “Tottenham trap”.
Spurs have seen their attendances increase since moving into a new stadium but there has been no real lift on the pitch, with not a single penny spent in the season they moved into the new stadium.
Therefore, the idea that a new flash stadium will change everything seems a naive thought.

Tottenham seeking serious improvement
Tottenham may have come from behind to beat AZ Alkmaar and make it through to the next round of the Europa League, but there is still no doubt that what’s been on display in North London this season has not been good enough.
There is no denying that Levy has given Spurs an excellent stadium to call home and it certainly generates much more income for the Lilywhites, but not enough of that is going towards improving the team and standards.
Postecoglou cannot escape all criticism this term given he has been stubborn in his way of playing, which has often caused his side to fall down, but it does feel that until Levy recognises his part to play, things will only change minimally.
Pochettino has already made it clear he wants to return to Tottenham, and given how close they were to winning something under his management, you can’t blame supporters who cling on to that hope.
Spurs surely serve as a reminder, though, that it takes more than extra money to bring success. Rather, it is down to those high up to reinvest wisely.
