Levy two games away from scrapping Postecoglou plans – Ex-Tottenham allies

Daniel Levy is trying his best to avoid sacking Ange Postecoglou to move Tottenham out of the cycle of going through managers every 18 months, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper reported on 17 January that Levy is trying to show the Tottenham players that the onus will be on them to turn around results, instead of just waiting for a new manager to come in and freshen things up.

It is understood that the Spurs chairman is desperately trying to change the culture at Tottenham, even with the North London club currently sitting in a miserable 14th place in the Premier League, eight points clear of the relegation zone.

And while Levy is making an effort to break the routine of axing managers every other year, he’s looking to stand by Postecoglou.

Will Tottenham be relegated from the Premier League?

However, The Telegraph claims that “Levy’s old employees and allies” believe he will “revert to type” and get rid of the Aussie if Spurs fail to win their next two matches against struggling Everton and Leicester.

Everton are 16th and have a game in hand on Spurs. If they beat the Londoners at Goodison Park on Sunday (19 January), they would move to be within four points of Postecoglou’s side.

Leicester are 19th with 14 points and are on the longest losing run in the division (six matches).

Spurs have been victorious in just one of their last eight Premier League matches and that was against bottom-of-the-table Southampton on 15 December.

Postecoglou’s side has won back-to-back league matches on only one occasion and that was back in September after they picked up six points against Brentford and Manchester United.

Spurs are extremely unlikely to be relegated at this point. There’s no doubt there’ll be three worse teams than them this season.

But another trophyless season and a bottom-half finish would be unacceptable and the finger will be pointed firmly at Levy for not getting rid of Postecoglou sooner if that happens.
