Levy to send big £40m message to Postecoglou as Tottenham meeting speculated

Robbie Savage has insisted that Daniel Levy will be quick to remind Ange Postecoglou that Tottenham could miss out on £40million if they don’t finish in the top four.

Writing via The Mirror [page 61, 7 December], the Macclesfield boss has explained that Postecoglou cannot go into a board meeting and tell Spurs’ directors that the club are simply entertaining to watch, with the Australian’s tactics being blasted recently.

Savage believes that Postecoglou must start to show some pragmatism as 10th in the Premier League isn’t going to please the board or supporters, who have seemingly turned on Postecoglou.

After the 1-0 loss to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday [5 December], Spurs’ sixth defeat of the current Premier League this season, Postecoglou appeared to clash with the travelling support, which could represent the beginning of the end for the 59-year-old.

It looks as though Postecoglou could be in serious trouble in North London.

Spurs are now six points off the top four and look a long way off a team capable of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. Therefore, Levy will be concerned, with the Spurs chairman no doubt desperate to reap the financial rewards which come with playing in Europe’s elite competition.

After finishing fifth in the Premier League last season, supporters would have been desperate to kick on and push up the table this time around. However, if anything, Spurs have taken a big step backwards, which won’t have gone unnoticed by the board.

While Postecoglou continues to insist on playing his way, the Australian might need to compromise, especially against a high-flying Chelsea in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday [8 December], a match for which the Spurs boss could look to make three changes.

In other Tottenham news, the club will jet a forward into the UK within days as a January signing is agreed.
