Kulusevski worries onlookers at Hotspur Way amid ‘ridiculous’ Tottenham crisis

Dejan Kulusevski briefly concerned reporters at Tottenham training on Wednesday morning as he remained in the gym longer than his teammates, according to Football London.

The capital-based news outlet reported (22 January) that during their access slot to the session at Hotspur Way, Kulusevski stayed in the gym while other Spurs players got their boots on to emerge onto the grass, before the team flew to Germany to prepare to face Hoffenheim (23 January).

The Swede however did eventually come out with his teammates as Ange Postecoglou deals with up to 14 players out in a “ridiculous” injury crisis, ahead of the Europa League fixture on Thursday.

Football London stated: “Some were left wondering if Dejan Kulusevski was going to join the session as he seemed to stay in the gym a little while longer as others got their boots on, but he did end up joining the team as they walked out to train.”

Tottenham would be doomed without Dejan Kulusevski

Make no bones about it – if Kulusevski had been an injury absence this season, Tottenham would be in an even worse position than they are now.

While Spurs do continue to fight on four fronts, their 15th-place berth in the Premier League is utterly shambolic even despite the lengthy injury list with which Postecoglou is competing.

The Lilywhites have a strong chance of automatic qualification for the Europa League round of 16, but must first navigate a way past Hoffenheim before hosting Elfsborg (30 January) in next week’s final league phase match.

Kulusevski has carried the baton for the Spurs attack for long periods this season as well as excelling for Sweden, with 11 goals and 11 assists for club and country since the Premier League opening weekend.

The 24-year-old will almost certainly start in south-west Germany on Thursday, with Tottenham currently sat one place outside the top eight who will receive a bye straight to the last 16 in Europe.
