Kris Boyd makes Liverpool v Tottenham prediction after new transfers

Liverpool will have “too much” for Tottenham on Thursday, Kris Boyd has said.

Ange Postecoglou’s side heads into the EFL Cup semi-final second leg (6 February) with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, the former Scotland striker believes that the Lilywhites will be overpowered at Anfield by Arne Slot and the Reds.

Speaking on Sky Sports (5 February), Boyd said: “I can see this one being turned around, especially, Liverpool at home, Anfield is a fortress.

“You look back and think if it was 2-0 for Tottenham, then it would have been more of a problem for Liverpool because of the way that Tottenham counter-attack.

“With Ange Postecoglou, the injuries they have got Dragusin is out now as well, yeah, they have been able to add a couple of players but I still think Liverpool have got too much for Tottenham tomorrow night.”

Tottenham can take monumental step with victory

Postecoglou’s seat in the dugout has been under intense pressure for months but he can wipe out the majority of the scrutiny by reaching the final.

That would give the Lilywhites a chance to end their drought and win a first trophy since they won the same competition in 2008.

It would be a monumental step for the Australian if he can guide Spurs to the trophy and it starts with the game on Merseyside on Thursday.

It will not be easy, as Boyd states, Anfield is a fortress and the atmosphere will be electric and the Reds are the Premier League leaders for a reason and Micky van de Ven will not feature.

However, if Spurs can hang on to their lead from the first encounter and secure passage to the Wembley showcase, it could change their season.

The North London outfit currently sit 14th in the league table but a cup final would be a major distraction and a way for Postecoglou to get fans back on board.
