Jim White reacts to ‘Unacceptable’ Tottenham claim v Tamworth – ‘Laughable’

Jim White has called out “laughable” Tamworth fans after Ange Postecoglou was pelted with missiles as Tottenham advanced in the FA Cup.

Spurs struggled against their National League opponents in the third round on Sunday (12 January), needing extra time to put daylight between the two teams in an eventual 3-0 win.

With the Premier League side travelling to The Lamb Ground, home fans mocked the players as they arrived and aimed chants, and apparently objects, at the under-pressure manager throughout the match.

Speaking live via talkSPORT [15 January, 12:06pm], Danny Murphy said: “The reality is that if he’s having things thrown at him, it’s up to the security to chuck them out. If you’re having things thrown at you, that is unacceptable.

“And a certain level of wording can become too much, depending on what it is. Football is a passionate, hostile environment and you do get fans trying to push buttons.

“You have to deal with it but he shouldn’t have things thrown at him.”

White: “It makes me laugh that those Tamworth fans, a small section of them albeit, thought they were intimidating. It’s almost laughable.”

Ange Postecoglou sack pressure growing at Tottenham

Football fans across the globe are aware of the pressure growing on the Australian, with Spurs struggling to climb up the Premier League table and nearly being knocked out of the FA Cup.

Of course, the Tamworth supporters were always going to target the manager as a Premier League club came to The Lamb Ground, but aiming objects at someone is completely unacceptable.

In the end, the Spurs figure will feel his side had the last laugh by knocking the National League side in extra-time but it was a painfully difficult victory away from North London.

With Arsenal up next, he is bound to receive similar abuse at the Emirates Stadium, and he will need his best players to stand up if the Lilywhites have any chance of winning the North London derby.

A victory in the Gunners’ backyard might help Postecoglou with the frustrated supporters but he still has a long way to go if he is to keep his job at Hotspur Way.

In other Tottenham news, Ange Postecoglou could have a much-changed starting XI once the transfer window shuts.
