Jamie O’Hara outraged at ‘sackable offence’ after Tottenham defeat v Liverpool

Jamie O’Hara believes Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou committed a “sackable offence” during an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Thursday night.

The Lilywhites had a real chance of lifting silverware in Postecoglou’s second season in North London, taking a 1-0 lead into the second leg of their EFL Cup clash against Liverpool on 6 February.

As many fans expected, however, Arne Slot’s side ripped them apart after Cody Gakpo opened the scoring, with Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk getting in on the action.

With Postecoglou under immense pressure at Hotspur Way, especially with his team sitting 15th in the Premier League table, advancing to the EFL Cup final was almost a must for him.

Spurs were sent tumbling out of the competition in one of the worst fashions possible, though, with his team unable to get a single shot in target through the clash. Dreadful.

Ange Postecoglou commits sackable offence

Speaking live via talkSPORT [6 February, 10:15pm], O’Hara said: “We turn up at Anfield and just sit in there, waiting to get beat. Every time we looked like we wanted to go forward, and we could’ve made a forward pass, we just went backwards.

“We didn’t have a shot on target! Not one shot on target at Anfield. In a semi-final… Come on, that’s a sackable offence. It is.”

Spurs unleashed a total of five shots at Anfield, with Son Heung-min coming the closest with just 12 minutes of normal play remaining, hitting the crossbar from a tight angle.

While it was positive to see some players pushing for a goal, it was too little too late from the experienced South Korean, who was almost invisible for the majority of the night.

Tottenham crash out of EFL Cup in sublime fashion

The travelling supporters expected to show far more fight at Anfield, but with Postecoglou setting up in a negative manner, it was only a matter of time before his side conceded the opener.

Caoimhin Kelleher was rarely called into action, spending most of the night as a bystander, and now Postecoglou is running out of reasons to lean on for why Daniel Levy should keep him at the club.

While the Lilywhites are still competing in the Europa League and the FA Cup, fans will not be holding their breath over lifting silverware this season, especially if they perform like they did on Thursday night.

The Australian is quickly running out of time to prove his credentials in North London, which would suggest it is just a matter of time before Levy pulls the plug.
