Jamie O’Hara makes immediate relegation joke after Tottenham development today
Jamie O’Hara joked that Tottenham are now set to survive the relegation battle after their 2-0 win over Brentford on Sunday.
O’Hara posted on X (2 February) immediately after the full-time whistle at the Gtech Community Stadium, which saw Spurs get back to winning ways for the first time in eight Premier League attempts.
The victory snaps a four-game losing streak for Ange Postecoglou’s side and takes them up to 14th in the Premier League, having started the day sat in 16th, just two places above the bottom three.
O’Hara said: “We are staying up, say we are staying up – up the Spurs”, accompanied by seven laughing emojis.
Tottenham put Premier League relegation battle at arm’s length
Although there’s still 14 matches left to play this term, Spurs opening up a 10-point gap between themselves and the bottom three should alleviate any fears of relegation in North London.
Given the quality of Postecoglou’s squad and the stature of the Lilywhites in both English and global football, the mere idea of them dropping into the Championship would have been laughed off by many.

However, their form preceding Sunday’s (2 February) victory at Brentford was down there with the worst of the lot, with only rock-bottom Southampton having lost as many matches as Spurs’ eight in their last 10.
Cascading down the table to as low as 16th following this run of woeful form made relegation feel like a very real threat in the eyes of some supporters, and being back up to 14th will cause plenty of relief.
Postecoglou has a long way to go before he and Spurs can relax as they aim to climb out of the bottom half, and it remains to be seen if Sunday’s result will prove to be a springboard for the fightback to begin.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs are still “desperate” to strengthen in one key position before the transfer window slams shut.
