Jamie O’Hara hates what he has to say about Son Heung-min at Tottenham

Jamie O’Hara admits he hates what he has to say about Son Heung-min at Tottenham this season.

The South Korea international has been under plenty of scrutiny due to the poor performances he’s often put in for Tottenham.

Spurs have been going through a fairly rough patch this term with the North London outfit currently sitting 14th in the Premier League after only winning one of their last five top-flight games.

Indeed, injuries have played a major part in the downfall of Ange Postecoglou’s men this season but in Son’s case, he’s not been sidelined for all that long, so, he should have been doing far better than what he has been recently.

Jamie O’Hara drops honest verdict on Son Heung-min

Since he arrived in North London all those years ago, Spurs fans have looked towards Son to be their shining light and to be the man to lead them out of the darkness they currently find themselves in.

However, since Harry Kane left for pastures new, it feels like the attacker’s form has fallen off massively.

And, O’Hara, while speaking to Grosvenor Sport (13 February), seemingly feels the same way.

“When you look at Tottenham’s two recent games — Liverpool and Aston Villa in the cup—this was the moment to show that they could compete. Unfortunately, they’ve shown the complete opposite. There’s no fight, no heart, no desire, and certainly no leadership,” he said.

“For me, that lack of leadership comes from the manager and the captain. I hate to say it, but Son Heung-Min is not the right captain for this team anymore.

“He’s a fantastic player, an incredible servant to the club, but when it comes to pulling the team together in tough moments, he’s not the one to step up.

“A captain should be someone who can lead from the front, someone who can grab the team by the scruff of the neck and get the team out of a hole.

“Son isn’t that, it’s time to take the captaincy off him and give it to someone else.”

Son Heung-min needs to refind his form for Tottenham again

It’s no secret that the 2024/25 season has gone the complete opposite of how Tottenham fans expected it to when the season kicked off.

They made a few solid moves in the summer transfer window with the likes of Dominic Solanke being signed to try and bolster Postecoglou’s ranks.

However, due to things such as injuries and players such as Son not being able to perform to the standards expected of them, everything has gone pear-shaped.

They may still find themselves in the Europa League but, realistically, it hardly feels likely that Spurs will have enough quality and depth among their ranks to even give them the slightest chance to add that trophy to their cabinet.

Only time will tell what the future holds but if Son can’t get back to his best, fans may start turning their backs on him and looking towards other players within their team to save them.

Which, the be quite frank, doesn’t bode well for the South Korean’s future at the end of his contract next season.
