Jamie O’Hara aims Tottenham jibe as Ange Postecoglou ultimatum issued

Jamie O’Hara is putting all his eggs in one basket as Tottenham prepare to face AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Tottenham are on course for a disappointing season as they sit 13th in the Premier League while also being knocked out of both cup competitions.

The Europa League represents Spurs’ only chance of winning silverware this campaign, with Ange Postecoglou facing immense pressure to stay true to his word of winning a trophy this term.

Tottenham’s season has been going downhill so much so that even a Spurs-mad person like O’Hara has become disenchanted with the team.

Every Europa League a cup final for Postecoglou, says O’Hara

With the 2024-25 season entering its final lap, O’Hara has said that Tottenham need to give up on the Premier League as they are admittedly not going to get European football via that route.

The former midfielder is of the view that Postecoglou should instead focus on the Europa League, where every game is a cup final for the manager.

He believes Spurs are the favourites to win the competition as things stand, but at the same time took a sly dig at the North London outfit for their reputation for not winning trophies.

“Does it really matter if we finish 12th or 9th? We are not going to get European football”, O’Hara told Grosvenor Sport (6 March).

“It is all about the Europa League. AZ Alkmaar, Thursday, that is the game. That’s his cup final.

“Every game in the Europa League from now till the end of the season is a cup final for Ange Postecoglou. He has to win it.

“He can get Champions League football and win a trophy. We are the favourites.

“With the squad that we have got and the players that we have got, we are the favourites to win the competition.

“Now, whether that is true or not, and whether that should be allowed because Spurs don’t win, but we could win that trophy.”

Europa League road to glory detailed for Tottenham

The first leg of the Europa League round of 16 clash between Spurs and AZ Alkmaar will be held in the Netherlands on Thursday, 6 March.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will host the Dutch outfit in the second leg of the tie next Thursday (13 March).

Postecoglou’s side will face either Ajax or Eintract Frankfurt in the quarter-final if they earn a victory over Alkmaar.

Should they manage to overcome that hurdle as well, the North London giants will face one of Bodo/Glimt, Olympiacos, Viktoria Plzen or Lazio in the semi-final.

The other side of the draw includes teams like Manchester United, Fenerbahce and AS Roma.
