Jamie Carragher rants at Everton v Tottenham footage – ‘It’s a mess’
Jamie Carragher dubbed Tottenham a “mess” for their defending during their 3-2 Premier League defeat to Everton on Sunday.
Spurs were on the back foot for three-quarters of their game against David Moyes’ men on 19 January with Ange Postecoglou’s men only stepping up to the plate in the dying embers of the game.
This defeat left Tottenham 15th in the Premier League table with the team now only four points clear of 16th-placed Everton.
Speaking live on Sky Sports Premier League (19 January) after Archie Gray’s unfortunate own goal, Carragher shared his thoughts on the way Tottenham’s defence had handled Everton.
“What a mess, it’s a mess, Tarkowski gets his opportunity on the earlier set-piece and then it comes in again and as I said, he’s been a massive part of Everton staying in the Premier League the last few years because of how he does in these areas, it’s just unfortunate for Archie Gray,” he said.
“He finds himself in a position at that back-post and he’s just got to throw his left leg at it, he comes in really quickly and if he doesn’t O’Brien is just going to put it in.”
Ange Postecoglou needs to turn things around at Tottenham
Spurs may have added Antonin Kinsky to their ranks already this winter but that doesn’t mean their problems are instantly solved.
While finding a replacement for Fraser Forster was a high priority, especially with Guglielmo Vicario sidelined for the foreseeable future, it still feels like a fair few new faces need to be added to Tottenham’s ranks, especially if Postecoglou is going to continue with his style of play.
At the moment, it’s hard to see how the Australian will be able to keep his role at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, especially after their defeat to relegation-threatened Everton.
He was already on a thin thread with fans and now this surely has to have been the final nail in the coffin.
If he somehow manages to keep his position, he’d better have a brilliant idea on how to turn things around otherwise things could start to turn even more for the worse if he isn’t careful.
