Jamie Carragher embarrassed after Tottenham comments live on Sky Sports

Jamie Carragher has jokingly responded to his embarrassing Tottenham claim before the 2-0 win against Brentford.

Spurs won their first Premier League match since December at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday (2 February) to ease the ever-growing pressure on Ange Postecoglou.

Carragher claimed live on Sky Sports Main Event (2 February, 1:36pm) prior to kick-off that he would be surprised if Spurs conceded fewer than three goals, to which he replied via X [2 February] after the game.

He wrote: “You’ll never win anything with kids…”, alongside a red-faced emoji.

Tottenham win against the odds v Brentford

Spurs’ injury troubles have been well-documented throughout the season, and it was the same old story in West London, but with a different outcome.

Mikey Moore lined up to face Brentford alongside Archie Gray and goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, all 21 or younger.

And to an extent, Carragher was right in his initial comments as Moore struggled to impress in his outing and was hooked at half-time for 19-year-old Lucas Bergvall.

Nevertheless, captain Son Heung-min stepped up for the Lilywhites, playing a part in both goals on the day and essentially keeping Postecoglou in the hot seat.

Even Gray, who has produced consistent form throughout his extended spell in the first team, suffered a tough afternoon after Brentford fans targeted chants at the midfielder after rejecting a move to the Bees for North London last summer.

But Postecoglou will still be the most relieved man at Spurs as he finally ends his Premier League rut, although he is not out of the woods just yet.

The Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool on Thursday (6 February) will be detrimental to his future.
