James Maddison injury: Fresh update emerges at Tottenham after Leicester loss

Tottenham will assess the extent of James Maddison’s calf issue to determine his injury timeline, according to Paul O Keefe.

The journalist reported via X (27 January) that Spurs will soon learn how long Maddison could be on the sidelines, while also sharing that the recent issues could be purely fatigue-related.

Maddison is the latest injury casualty at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, having missed Sunday’s 2-1 loss (26 January) against his former employers Leicester City.

James Maddison absence at Tottenham bad news for Ange Postecoglou

Undoubtedly, Maddison could have been the difference for Tottenham against Leicester.

Although Jeff Stelling believes his absence is no excuse for losing at home against a relegation-threatened side, the injuries continue to pile up in North London.

Despite being consistently rotated in and out of the side by Postecoglou, Maddison’s eight Premier League goals make him the Lilywhites’ top goalscorer this term.

Tottenham are missing regular starters Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario, Djed Spence, Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson – losing Maddison, too, could be the end for Postecoglou.

A lack of creativity in the final third ultimately cost Spurs the three points on the weekend – it is clear the current crop cannot carry the mantle with so many notable names on the sidelines.

The Australian has been under immense pressure in North London for some time, and if results continue in this vein, it will not be long before Daniel Levy is forced to pull the trigger regardless of circumstance.

Spurs supporters will be praying Maddison’s absence is temporary and he will be available for the clash against Brentford on Sunday (2 February) – it may be Postecoglou’s final Premier League match.
