Harry Redknapp: Everyone is raving about 17-year-old Tottenham rising star
Tottenham Hotspur should be credited for the development of Mikey Moore following his appearances this season, according to Harry Redknapp.
The former Spurs manager, speaking in his column on page 57 of The Sun on Sunday (26 January), acknowledges how Moore has been raved about by the Lilywhites for a long time despite still being just 17, and sympathises with Ange Postecoglou who has had to test his youngsters in a “sink or swim” scenario.
Along with his two senior games last season, Moore has already made another 11 appearances this term – which would even have been considerably more had it not been for a spell of illness which ruled him out for several weeks.
Redknapp said: “Needs must, and it was a case of sink or swim instead [on Moore, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray], and all three of them never for one second looked like going under.
“They have been raving about Moore for ages, even though he’s still only 17, and it’s always great when a kid comes through the ranks and lives up to the billing.
“Well, Mikey is definitely doing that and more – this kid is going to be a big star, believe me.”
Tottenham struggles suit Mikey Moore for more game time
Moore is a tremendous talent, that much is clear just by watching him for one game. Even the things he tries that don’t come off demonstrate the confidence integral to an established Premier League attacker.
The teenage starlet has been a breath of fresh air alongside teammates Bergvall and Gray in what has been a disastrous season in the league. In Europe and the Carabao Cup – the competitions in which Postecoglou would have intended to play his young charges – Spurs have performed far better.
That speaks volumes about how senior players have regularly let themselves and their manager down – not that Postecoglou is by any stretch free of blame – but strengthens the case for the likes of Moore to receive more game time.

Moore doesn’t turn 18 until the start of next season, which is a scary thought considering this makes him younger than players such as Lamine Yamal and Ethan Nwaneri. He has time on his side and he is at the right club for individual opportunities.
If he can continue as a shining light in an ailing team full of stars when he gets his chances, he can only do his own case the world of good.
