Gary Neville makes ‘mad’ Liverpool v Tottenham admission
Gary Neville has predicted Tottenham will get a draw against Liverpool at Anfield to advance to the EFL Cup final.
Speaking on It’s Called Soccer (5 February), Neville looked ahead to what he expects to be “an emotional, mad night” on Thursday as Spurs prepare for the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.
Spurs hold a 1-0 aggregate lead from the first leg as they head to Anfield, and though he couldn’t put his finger on exactly why, Neville predicted a 2-2 draw which would be enough to send them to Wembley.
He said: “I think Tottenham are going to get a draw – I don’t know how they’re going to get a draw at Anfield, but I feel like it’s going to be an emotional, mad night where something happens.
“I’ve just got a feeling Tottenham could win the Carabao Cup this season – they’re always going to have to come through a moment like this.
“It will be absolutely Liverpool [as the] favourites, but I feel somehow Tottenham are going to get a draw, by hook or by crook.”
Tottenham can make huge statement with Liverpool victory
They’re already halfway there, but Spurs heading to Anfield needing to maintain their one-goal advantage is an unenviable proposition, given the rate at which Liverpool have swept teams side there.
Though Lucas Bergvall’s winner four minutes from time gives Ange Postecoglou’s side one foot in the final, new signing Antonin Kinsky arguably being man-of-the-match shows how close the first leg was.

Kinsky, Bergvall, and the rest of Postecoglou’s youthful side will certainly need to be on top of their game at Anfield, with other new arrivals such as Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso potentially being handed debuts.
A cup semi-final will be a baptism of fire for any Spurs player yet to experience a trip to Anfield, but given Liverpool’s Premier League away form is better than at home, it’s clear the Reds are there to be beaten.
A 2-2 draw with the goals flying in at either end certainly won’t help to calm any Lilywhite nerves on Thursday, but Postecoglou knows full well that as long as his side are at least level, Wembley beckons.
