Fulham want Tosin Adarabioyo to move to Tottenham in order to seal Eric Dier transfer – report

Fulham are keen for wantaway defender Tosin Adarabioyo to move to Tottenham so they can sign Eric Dier as his replacement, according to Fabrice Hawkins.

According to the French RMC Sport journalist, taking to his personal Twitter account (20 August), Fulham boss Marco Silva would prefer to sell the defender to Spurs in order to sign Dier, though Adarabioyo favours a move to Ligue 1 outfit Monaco.

The Atheltic reported on 16 August that Tottenham were monitoring the situation of the Fulham defender with Monaco wanting to sign him too but, according to Hawkins, the Cottagers want him to move across London so they can sign Eric Dier, who could be set to depart this summer.

Hawkins tweeted: “Tosin Adarabioyo wants to sign for Monaco.

“The central defender has an agreement with ASM.

“Fulham and his coach Marco Silva prefer to sell him to Tottenham and recover Eric Dier.”

No future for Dier, another defender needed

Since the Englishman joined Spurs from Portuguese side Sporting CP for a bargain £4m in 2014, Dier has had a very mixed bag of a career in north London, proving a steady defensive stalwart at times but also becoming a scapegoat for the perennial failure that the club have long been associated with over the past decade.

Towards the end of Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure at Spurs, the England international began to transition to centre-back, where he has played since Jose Mourinho’s stint at the club.

Since the 2019/20 season, the former Everton youth player has made 132 appearances for the north London outfit at the heart of the defence, in addition to 10 appearances at centre-half for England. Even for Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate, though, he has not always been deemed good enough to even usurp a struggling Harry Maguire.

Dier hasn’t even featured for new manager Ange Postecoglou yet, even with another exit-linked player Davinson Sanchez starting ahead of him, which certainly suggests that his time in north London could well be over soon enough.

Despite Fulham’s stance on Adarabioyo and Dier, the former looks set to join Monaco as he certainly won’t be guaranteed minutes under Postecoglou but, as the Australian coach has pointed out already, Spurs need another centre-back with Dier and Sanchez set to depart the club before the window closes.

Fulham will certainly represent a great next opportunity for Dier, and having just sold Aleksandar Mitrovic for around £50m, it will be interesting to see how much they are willing to spend on the England international. A swift departure would certainly be best for all parties involved right now.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou faces an anxious wait on a crucial Spurs player after a worrying injury development at the weekend.
