Fantasy Watch: Son Heung-min racks up the points as Cristian Romero struggles for Tottenham

The North London derby was a great game for the neutrals even if Tottenham fans were put through the ringer at times in a pulsating 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday (24 September).

Ange Postecoglou had his first taste of one of English football’s biggest fixtures and the Australian will likely have been feeling content with a point having twice seen his side come from behind.

But it is not just the actual Tottenham manager who had decisions to make, but keen players of Fantasy Football too as they aim to sit top of leagues with their friends or work colleagues.

Tottenham News looks at who were the big points scorers among Spurs players from Gameweek 6, and which you might want to consider leaving out of your assembled XIs next time out. All information is taken from the Premier League’s official Fantasy site.

Son shines in big performance from the skipper

With Hugo Lloris ostracised from the first-team picture and Harry Kane having departed for Bayern Munich, there was a leadership void at Spurs prior to the start of the season.

Son Heung-min was the man chosen to take the armband, with Cristian Romero and James Maddison acting as his assistants.

And boy was it a captain’s performance from the South Korea star, who scored twice against the Gunners, first cleverly slotting home Maddison’s cut-back to cancel out Romero’s own goal, then keeping his cool after the same man set him through one-on-one almost straight from kick-off when Bukayo Saka had put Arsenal back ahead from the penalty spot in the second half.

It meant Son finished with 14 points, a great tally for any Fantasy player who named him as captain this week. Maddison’s efforts saw him claim nine points but that was as good as it got for Spurs players.

Romero makes little case for the defence

As good as an outing as it was for Son, the same cannot really be said for Spurs’ defenders at the Emirates Stadium.

In fact, the collective total of Tottenham’s starting defenders and goalkeeper amounted to just two points, some 12 lower than Son managed alone.

Romero, who has been in general excellent for Spurs this campaign, actually finished with -2 thanks to his own goal, while Destiny Udogie finished pointless.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario did manage two points, but Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven each only chalked up one.

So, when making your selections for Gameweek 7, when Tottenham face off with Liverpool, you might want to think twice about including any of your favourite Spurs defenders in your line-ups.
