Ex-Spurs Scout: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg exit ‘shouldn’t be of any interest to Tottenham’

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent six years as a senior scout at Spurs and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent eight years on Everton’s recruitment team and 11 years scouting at Aston Villa across two different spells.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes letting Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave “shouldn’t be of any interest to Tottenham” amid concerns over the squad’s lack of depth.

Hojbjerg has fallen out of favour in north London following the arrival of Ange Postecoglou.

The Denmark international has made just two Premier League starts this season, with both coming as a result of injury or suspension to other midfielders ahead of him in the pecking order.

As a result, his future is once again up in the air ahead of the January transfer window, and according to The Mirror, Fulham have once again set their sights on signing the 28-year-old.

The newspaper reported in its print edition (15 November, page 55) that the Dane remains on the Cottagers’ radar, with the future of Joao Palhinha up in the air amid renewed interest from Bayern Munich.

Should the Brazilian leave, Fulham are poised to make a move for Hojbjerg, who remains keen on making a Spurs exit in search of more first-team opportunities. Juventus are also weighing up a January move for the former Bayern Munich man and could look to rival Fulham for his signature.

Marco Silva’s side previously failed with a £25million bid for the former Southampton midfielder at the end of the summer transfer window.

With this in mind, ex-Spurs scout King has told Tottenham News that the club cannot afford to let him leave at this moment in time.

“I am sure he would be happy because it would be a guarantee of first-team football for him. However, he is under contract, and the club must consider the depth they have in the squad at the moment,” said King.

“At this moment in time, letting Hojbjerg go shouldn’t be of any interest to Tottenham because they haven’t got an abundance of bodies.

“I think Tottenham would reject a move unless they could bring in players to allow him to leave. He is going to be central over the next couple of months with the injuries that Spurs have.

“If he wants first-team football, he has the chance to prove why he should start for Tottenham now.”

In other Tottenham news, John Wenham believes the club could look to target one Premier League defender in January.
