Everton want to renegotiate £10million-Dele Alli clause with Tottenham – report

Everton have opened talks with Tottenham to renegotiate a £10million clause in the deal which saw Dele Alli move to Goodison Park in January 2022, according to The Mirror.

The newspaper reported via their website (2 November) that the Toffees will be required to pay Tottenham £10million should Alli reach 20 appearances for the Merseyside-based club – with the 27-year-old currently on 13.

However, due to the “dire financial situation” Everton find themselves in, manager Sean Dyche has confirmed that “background talks” are taking place between the two clubs to renegotiate the deal.

“[Director of football Kevin Thelwell] has had a couple of phone calls, just lightly in the background. Look, where do you see it?” Dyche said.

“But nothing has changed at the moment – I must make it clear he is on the grass but still a long way from being fit.”

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King told Tottenham News:

“Alli has gone from a £40million player to somebody not even worth £10million.

“I just feel that he needs to be playing football again to see which way he is going go. Is he going to get back to what he was, or will he become another young footballing star who vanishes into the distance?

“Everton have big financial problems. However, I don’t think the fee will be waived, I cannot imagine Daniel Levy just throwing £10million away, he could perhaps delay the payment of the fee, however.

“If Alli does produce, then the £10million will need to be paid, whether the club want to pay it or not. This all comes down to Alli, he has got to get himself match fit and show to everyone that he is worth this extra payment.
