Everton new manager: Ex-Tottenham boss huge favourite after Dyche sack update

Tottenham Hotspur ex-manager Jose Mourinho has been ranked as the bookmakers’ favourite to succeed Sean Dyche at Everton, according to BetVictor.

The most recent betting market for the next Everton boss shows as of Wednesday afternoon (8 January) that Mourinho, who spent a little over 18 months in North London before leaving in 2021, is now priced odds-on at 8/11 with BetVictor to take the reins at Goodison Park.

Dyche is suggested to be on the verge of the sack by the new American ownership consortium at Everton, The Friedkin Group (TFG), with Mourinho currently in post at Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce.

Mourinho returning to England for first time since Tottenham?

Whether supporters found his football entertaining or not while at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – a very pertinent word of late under Ange Postecoglou – Mourinho brings a charisma to English football.

Since departing Spurs in April 2021, he has not returned to Premier League management – but could be about to save Everton from relegation threat as the Toffees prepare to move to their 52,000-plus-capacity new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium.

Mourinho does tend to speak his mind publicly throughout all of his jobs and is never afraid to signal to the press when he is getting itchy feet in a particular role. This has been the case at Fenerbahce, his last club Roma, and during various points in England.

He may not be the foregone long-term answer at Everton, but would be highly likely to inject some passion into the club which has lacked for a long time.

Mourinho is often brought up when pundits and fans debate the style of play of Postecoglou, with heavy contrasts between that of the pair. This could make a match-up between the two sides all the more interesting.
