Dominic Solanke reacts as Tottenham officially announce controversial news
Dominic Solanke and Guglielmo Vicario seem to be two of the only Tottenham first-team players to have reacted positively in public to Son Heung-min’s contract announcement.
The Spurs duo liked the post on Instagram shared by the club’s official account (7 January), detailing that captain Son has seen his contract extended until the summer of 2026, having initially been set to expire at the end of this season.
With Son’s dwindling overall form, some supporters have been thoroughly displeased by what has turned out to be a controversial development, with accusations fired at Daniel Levy for making a commercial decision due to the number of South Korean spectators the forward can attract.
It could even also be the case that the Lilywhites legend’s teammates are quietly on the same page given the muted public reaction compared to usual.
Son Heung-min to stay at Tottenham until 2026
A couple of years ago, it would have been unfathomable to imagine a world in which Tottenham fans were outraged by a new contract for a player with the calibre of Son.
However, the situation has played out now whereby the 32-year-old looks to be slowing down, his impact in games lessening despite the clear glimmers of quality that remain. A player doesn’t change overnight in his thirties.
But at times it has seemed like the Korean skipper has sought to pull up trees on his own, maybe an instinctive rise in responsibility after seeing his partner in crime Harry Kane leave for Bayern Munich in 2023.

Ange Postecoglou maintains a very talented attack at his disposal but fans are frustrated with the team as a whole, with Son often at risk of bearing the brunt due to his captaincy and longevity in North London.
And where Daniel Levy’s name crops up, it tends to be in a negative light among the fanbase, who have once again slammed the chairman for what they believe to be a business-minded decision to keep Son around for longer. This theory is based on the pulsating Spurs support building in South Korea and the Far East which has stemmed purely from the club legend’s presence.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs may have found a great way to capture Pascal Struijk from Leeds United.
