Declan Rice wowed by two Tottenham players despite 2-1 defeat v Arsenal

Declan Rice was full of praise for two Tottenham stars after Arsenal claimed a 2-1 victory in the North London derby on Wednesday.

Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered their 11th Premier League defeat of the season at the Emirates on 15 January, with one player in particular letting his manager down.

It is a result which could spell the end of the road for the Australian. However, amid all the negativity, Spurs were provided with a bit of positivity from an unlikely source as Rice piled praise on Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

While discussing Myles Lewis-Skelly’s impact at Arsenal after the match, the England international told TNT Sports (15 January), “Do you know what as well, I’m going to mention them because they’re Spurs players, but Archie Gray and [Lucas] Bergvall, they’re both 18 as well.

“They’re playing week in and week out – Mikey Moore – there’s guys in the Premier League now that are playing and they’re younger and younger and younger, and they’re just fearless. It is so good to see.”

Although it might pain some Spurs fans to admit, Rice is one of the Premier League and England’s best players at the moment.

Therefore, while he might not admit it publically, Gray would no doubt be proud to hear that kind of praise from someone who he likely looks up to as a role model in the England setup.

And it is hard to deny that the former Leeds man – who could yet have an involvement in a £10million deal with his old club – and fellow 18-year-old Bergvall are doing themselves proud with their performances this season.

While Spurs are miles off where they should be in the Premier League, there are at least some positive signs for the future with such talented young players in the group.

As a result, there is no way that the club should be thinking about letting either player go, as Real Madrid show interest in Gray [via Fichajes, 12 January].
