Darren Bent names manager he can see replacing Postecoglou at Tottenham
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is under pressure in N17, despite advancing to the Europa League quarter-finals.
The 2024-25 Premier League season has been a forgetful one for Spurs. The North London outfit are struggling in 13th position with 34 points from 28 games.
Postecoglou’s job is in danger following their dismal and inconsistent performances in the league. The only saving grace will be if Tottenham manage to go even deeper in the Europa League and win the competition.
The Lilywhites were almost out of the Europa League, losing 1-0 to AZ Alkmaar in the first leg, but Postecoglou’s side managed to overturn the deficit and win 3-1 in the second leg to go through to the quarters.

Andoni Iraola touted as Postecoglou replacement
Despite Spurs’ progress to the last eight of the Europa league, pressure has not eased on Postecoglou. The season is not salvaged yet as their only hope of ensuring European football for next season is to win the European competition.
Given their sub-standard performances in the league, Tottenham are on course for a mid-table finish, a big fall from their fifth-place finish last season under the same manager.
While the fans demand Postecoglou’s sack, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will carefully examine the situation before making a call on the Australian’s future.
Former Tottenham Hotspur player and pundit Darren Bent suggested who he could see taking over the reins at N17 should Postecoglou be sacked.
Club | Matches | Wins | Draws | Losses |
Tottenham 2023-Present | 86 | 42 | 12 | 32 |
Speaking on talkSPORT [13 March, 17:10] ahead of the Spurs’ second leg tie against AZ, Bent said Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola could be a candidate to replace Postecoglou.
He told: “I do think [Postecoglou] is under big pressure. I’m telling you now, and I would be a bit fearful for this football club if they [Spurs] come knocking because I think even though they have had an outstanding season, I love football that they play, he’s he’s built a side that the football they’re playing this season.
“I have loved watching them play, but Tottenham are a bigger club than Bournemouth. So if Tottenham go for Andoni Iraola, if I’m Bournemouth, I’m thinking, ‘oh no’, because as well as they are doing, players as well, that that’s the one where you go, ‘I get it’.
“Bournemouth have had a much, much better season than than Tottenham, but Tottenham are a bigger club. And Andoni might go. It’s a stepping stone, right? No disrespect Bournemouth, but they’ll understand that, of course they will.”

Will Tottenham sack Postecoglou at the end of the season?
Postecoglou definitely bought himself some time with their 3-1 win over AZ and guiding Spurs to progress to the Europa League’s last eight.
However, the North London club were one of the favourites to lift the Europa League and yet they were given a major scare by AZ in the last 16.
With 10 Premier League games to go, Spurs need a miracle to ensure they get European football via the league route.
Given the lack of optimism in the squad, it will be an uphill task for the manager to motivate the players to turn their season around from here.
Postecoglou has been papering the cracks at Tottenham for far too long, and sooner rather than later, there’ll be a break point.
Amidst all this, if Spurs manage to go on an inspiring Europa League run, only then will the Australian convince the fans and the board that he is the right man for the job.
