Danny Murphy rubbishes what he’s heard about Daniel Levy amid Tottenham crisis

Danny Murphy believes that Daniel Levy is not to blame for the crisis ensuing at Tottenham this season despite fan criticism.

Spurs are enduring a horror season and as things stand, they sit just seven points above the relegation zone albeit with a game in hand.

The regression has caused fans to hit out at Levy and put a lot of the blame on the Spurs chairman but Murphy claims that frustration is misplaced and rubbished any claims of him lacking ambition.

In his column via the print edition of the Mail on Sunday (2 February, pg86), Murphy said: “Pinning the blame on Levy is ridiculous. If Ange Postecoglou had been more pragmatic during Spurs’ injury crisis, the chairman would not be getting so much flak.

“Levy isn’t ambitious is a claim I’ve heard made about him, but hiring Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte showed how much he wants to grace Tottenham’s fantastic stadium with trophies. I’d argue his ambition has been misplaced.”

Daniel Levy holds some blame at Tottenham

Although no one could have envisaged the injury situation in North London this season, it exposed the severe lack of depth across the Spurs squad and that is something Levy should be held accountable for.

When money has been spent, it hasn’t been spent well and there are areas that should have seen more funding than it has.

But Murphy is right when he mentions the lack of a pragmatic approach from Postecoglou, who remains the main reason behind the shocking downfall this season.

His inability to shoulder the blame matched by his unwillingness to adapt to situations has cost Tottenham in many, many games and situations like that shouldn’t be reflected on Levy.

Both figures need to acknowledge their own wrong doings and until then, Spurs are only going in one direction and it is certainly not a positive one.
