Daniel Levy hits back at Tottenham fans with new £700m reveal

Daniel Levy has come under fire from Tottenham fans to invest further cash into the playing squad.

It has been a difficult season for Ange Postecoglou’s men, with Spurs somehow sitting 14th in the Premier League table after struggling for consistency.

Spurs might have entertained fans with their attacking style of football, but they haven’t delivered the results that supporters want to go along with that.

Postecoglou has had to deal with a plethora of injuries throughout the season, which haven’t helped his ability to get the best out of the team.

However, frustrations have started to reach a boiling point lately with some supporters arguing with the Spurs boss after their most recent loss against Fulham.

Levy won’t bow down to pressure

Tottenham fans have also been protesting about the ownership, as they have started to make their feelings known about Levy in a bid to force change.

Supporters want to see Levy splash the cash in the summer transfer window, but that’s not something that he is known for.

Levy has broken his silence, though, along with the latest accounts, hitting back, saying: “Since opening our new stadium in April 2019, we have invested over £700million net in player acquisitions.

“Recruitment remains a key focus, and we must ensure that we make smart purchases within our financial means.

“A closer examination of today’s financial figures reveals that such spending must be sustainable in the long term and within our operating revenues.

“Our capacity to generate recurring revenues determines our spending power. We cannot spend what we do not have, and we will not compromise the financial stability of this club.”

Therefore, Tottenham fans had best not get overexcited about potential new signings ahead of the summer transfer window, as Levy isn’t going to be spending more than the Londoners can afford.

Tottenham’s Europa League campaign has lots of pressure

The Europa League remains Tottenham’s only opportunity to win any silverware in this campaign, and their only route to securing European football for next season at the same time.

The competition could also be a crucial factor in whether or not Postecoglou keeps his job after the end of the season.

Levy had informed Postecoglou that he expects Spurs to qualify for Europe as a minimum requirement for next season, and winning the Europa League is the only way that Postecoglou can achieve that at this stage.
