Daniel Levy fury as abysmal Tottenham and Postecoglou verdict shared
Tottenham should have felt “hugely flattered” after their Premier League defeat to Everton ended with just a one-goal deficit, Phil McNulty has said.
Spurs’ fans were left furious with their team after they succumbed to a 3-2 loss against the Toffees, with the two clubs now only separated by four points in the top-flight table.
Most of the fans’ fury was directed towards chairman Daniel Levy, who was sitting in the stands, with BBC chief football writer McNulty sharing that Spurs can have “no excuses” for their performance in the first half.
“Tottenham and their manager were hugely flattered by losing by just one goal, and that margin cannot cover up the abysmal first 45 minutes during which this game was lost,” he wrote via the BBC Sport website (19 January).
“And while they are clinging to the possibilities offered by a one-goal advantage in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool at Anfield, those hopes will be snuffed out very swiftly if they perform as badly as this.
“Postecoglou is unquestionably struggling for resources, with striker Dominic Solanke the latest casualty with a knee injury, but there can be no excuses for a first half that understandably left the travelling fans in a fury, a fury mainly aimed at chairman Daniel Levy.”
Daniel Levy surely has to make a change at Tottenham soon
Since the first few games of the 2024/25 season, fans have been calling for the head of Postecoglou.
The Australian has suffered a massive amount of injuries this season and there’s no denying that, but Spurs should be doing a lot better than they currently are.
In fact, they probably would be doing better than they are right now if the former Celtic boss wasn’t so stuck in his ways in terms of changing things around.

With two weeks left of the winter transfer window, only Antonin Kinsky has been brought in to bolster Spurs’ ranks, which in itself is fairly questionable.
It’s evident that Tottenham need some defensive reinforcement soon, and if Levy isn’t going to relieve Postecoglou of his duties, he needs to at least back him and give him some money to recruit some new faces. Otherwise, things could go from bad to worse in an instant.
