Daniel Levy accused of embarrassing Tottenham in surprise transfer development

Tottenham supporters have urged Daniel Levy on social media to end his January pursuit of Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

According to transfer specialist Graeme Bailey via TBR Football (2 January), Wolves will allow Johnstone to leave this month, with Spurs prepared to launch a loan offer for his services in a surprise development.

Fraser Forster has deputised between the sticks at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium while Guglielmo Vicario remains on the sidelines, but after a string of abysmal performances, Ange Postecoglou is eager to find a suitable deputy for the Italian.

Tottenham fans do not want Sam Johnstone in North London

While Vicario expects to return to first-team action in February, Tottenham cannot wait until next month to address the apparent flaws in the side.

Forster conceded 13 goals in his last four Premier League outings against Manchester United, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Wolves, averaging three goals per game.

However, despite his worrying form in North London, the supporters would prefer Spurs stick with Forster until Vicario is fit and not move to add Johnstone to the goalkeeper ranks.

One supporter blasted the decision, claiming he “can’t get a game at Wolves” and while Burnley shot-stopper James Trafford is another reported target, another supporter claimed Tottenham are “going for a worse option in a desperate moment.”

Another added that moving for Johnstone is simply “embarrassing” for the North London side.

Forster will undoubtedly be selected between the sticks when Spurs host Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (4 December), with a chance to move into the top half of the Premier League table.

While he may not be the perfect backup option for Vicario, many supporters agree he is a better option than a man deemed surplus to requirements at relegation-threatened Wolves.
