Cristian Romero theory shared after Tottenham news in last 24 hours

Tottenham could soon welcome Cristian Romero back to their side after over two months out through injury.

The Argentina international has been ruled out since early December after being forced off with just 15 minutes gone against Chelsea.

It is safe to say that Ange Postecoglou has sorely missed the 26-year-old whose absence has coincided with a slip down the Premier League table.

It now appears that there is a light at the end of the tunnel after the latest development emerging from North London.

Cristian Romero returns to Tottenham training ahead of Argentina duty

Spurs have confirmed that the ex-Atalanta defender is back on the grass and is training with his teammates after being absent for 19 games.

This will come as a major boost to the Lilywhites who have been calling out for the defender to return alongside his partner Micky van de Ven.

With that being said, questions have been asked about the timing of the Argetine’s return and its proximity to the upcoming international break.

Speaking on the Last Word On Spurs podcast (25 February), host Ricky Sacks has suggested his return isn’t a surprise given the chance to feature for his country is coming up.

He said: “We have heard some news in the last 24 hours that Romero is back in training. He’s been spotted at Hotspur Way.

“Obviously, Ange Postecoglou has said when it comes to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero that he is going to monitor those players. All he has committed to so far is the fact that he hopes that they will feature in Spurs’ upcoming round of 16 ties against AZ Alkmaar.

“I’,m sure none of of us are surprised with Argentina fixtures on the horizon, Romero’s back in training. What can we read into that? I’m not so sure.”

Tottenham glad to welcome Romero back to training

There is no doubt that being able to welcome Romero back will be a huge boost to Postecoglou’s side which has been calling out for defensive options.

Spurs are certainly better at the back with the World Cup winner than they are without him and the difference in form since his injury is clear.

This re-introduction into the side will represent a step up in class, despite the best efforts of Archie Gray who has deputised admirably.

It will be interesting to see how quickly Postecoglou will put him back into the side and how pressing it is to welcome him back as a regular starter.

The Australian has to learn from his mistakes of earlier in the season and has to treat the Argentine and van de Ven with caution this campaign.
