Cristian Romero on verge of yet another Tottenham suspension

Cristian Romero is two yellow cards away from serving another two-game ban for Tottenham.

Romero has been the talk of the town at Tottenham recently, with his red card against Manchester United the reason behind it.

That was the second straight red card of his Spurs career, having also been sent off for two yellow cards on two separate occasions, with a four-game ban still being served.

Now, the Argentine is just two yellow cards away from receiving yet another two-game ban, which would see him miss a total of eight games for Tottenham this season.

The threshold for yellow card accumulation is currently set at 10, and that will reset after the 32nd Premier League game of the season.

Tottenham have clear call to make with Cristian Romero in summer

Romero is a fantastic defender, but has become nothing more than a liability over the past 12 months at Tottenham.

To have your captain serve a fourth suspension of the season would demonstrate that, and that has been a key factor behind their regression.

Romero’s suspension record this season

Tottenham are lacking the character needed to get them out of their current predicament, and the situation will not change unless plans are put into action in the summer.

The first one has to be to offload Romero, and with ongoing interest from Atletico Madrid, it should not be too difficult to finalise an exit.

Diego Simeone’s side have been linked with the defender last summer, and with the crisis occurring in North London, this summer could be the perfect time for them to execute a deal.

Are any other Tottenham players at risk of suspension?

Fortunately for Igor Tudor, Romero aside, it’s highly unlikely any of their other first-team regulars will be forced to serve a two-game ban.

After the Argentine, Joao Palhinha and Micky van de Ven have the most yellow cards with six, meaning they are still four away from a ban.

It means they would need to pick up a yellow card in each of their next four games to receive a suspension, which is when the threshold is then upped to 15.

Should a player receive 15 yellow cards in the same season, they will be forced to serve a three-game ban.
