Cristian Romero injury concern emerges in Tottenham v Fulham

Cristian Romero has suffered yet another injury scare in the first half of the Premier League clash between Tottenham and Fulham.

Ange Postecoglou named a much-changed Tottenham team for the match with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday (16 March).

The Australian made a total of seven changes from Spurs’ 3-1 win over AZ Alkmaar on Thursday (13 March).

As a result, it left many fans wondering if Postecoglou has given up on the Premier League. Romero was one of the four players who kept his place in the Spurs starting lineup.

However, it looks as though that could be a decision which Postecoglou lives to regret.

Romero goes down injured in Fulham v Tottenham

Romero has spent most of the season injured.

This is something which has clearly bothered the centre-back, in particular Spurs’ treatment of his injury issues after his recent dig aimed at Tottenham.

And fans’ hearts will be in their mouths once again after the latest injury update from Craven Cottage.

As per Nizaar Kinsella via BBC Sport (16 March, 2:07 pm), “Spurs defender [Cristian] Romero briefly went down injured and the Argentine initially looked very concerned but is hoping to run it off. One to watch.”

Postecoglou should take Romero off against Fulham

Spurs will need to keep Romero fit if they are to have any chance of winning the UEFA Europa League this season. Therefore, in a game which is an meaningless as this one, Postecoglou should consider bringing the defender off.

He was able to play on after his injury scare, which is a relief. However, the last thing that Tottenham need to do is further aggravate the injury.

Micky van de Ven was sent to warm up after Romero went down, and it would perhaps be wise to bring the Dutchman on in the second half to ensure Romero isn’t seriously injured.

However, van de Ven has also struggled with injury issues this season, and Postecoglou will therefore need to be careful with the 23-year-old as well.
