Carragher in disbelief over what Pedro Porro did at Tottenham – ‘What is this?’
Jamie Carragher could pick any of the 11 starters to slam after Tottenham were knocked out of the FA Cup by Aston Villa on Sunday evening.
Ange Postecoglou headed into the clash at Villa Park on 9 February under tremendous pressure, having crashed and burned out of the EFL Cup thanks to a 4-0 defeat to Liverpool just three days before.
Spurs’ campaign has been plagued by key injuries, which has earned the manager some sympathy, but patience is quickly running out, especially with the team 14th in the Premier League table.
The Lilywhites, still with a chance of lifting silverware this season, but with Jacob Ramsey firing past Antonin Kinsky after just two minutes, there was an early crushing blow at Hotspur Way.
It was the worst possible start for Postecoglou’s side, who would have been eager to get a victory, but it seems they only had themselves to blame.
Pedro Porro mistake punished by Aston Villa
Speaking via The Overlap [11 February], Carragher said: “I watched [v Liverpool] and within one minute, the right-back is closing Villa’s left-back down, right from the kick-off.
“A minute later, Villa go and score, and I’m like, ‘What is this?'”
The flying right-back is known for his surges down the flank, but with just a minute on the clock, there is no explanation as to why he was so far out of position.
He was also easily beaten as Unai Emery’s side played out from the back, allowing Rogers to send a simple through-ball to the midfielder, who obliged from 18 yards.
Ange Postecoglou tactics glaringly wrong after Tottenham defeat
With just one goal in their last 180 minutes of football against Liverpool and Aston Villa, there is clearly something wrong with Postecoglou’s ideas on the pitch.

Spurs have continuously been punished this season, and while several key stars are still sidelined with injuries, that should not be an excuse for the awful defending and decisions from their replacements.
The squad is still more than talented enough to be sitting 14th in the Premier League, proven by their run in Europe, but if he’s not careful, the manager might just have a few days left in North London.
Many supporters are baffled by Daniel Levy‘s decision to not yet pull the trigger on Postecoglou’s tenure, likely due to a lack of potential replacements available for the Australian.
