Carragher cannot believe what Arne Slot said about Postecoglou and Tottenham

Jamie Carragher has slammed Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou after the 6-3 loss against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Lilywhites were far too open against Arne Slot’s side on 22 December and have conceded nine goals in their last two matches in all competitions.

In his pre-match press conference, Slot praised the former Celtic manager for not abandoning his attacking principles despite his side shipping goals in recent weeks, something Carragher did not believe for one moment.

Speaking after the contest on Sky Sports [22 December], he said: “That press conference from Slot on Friday was hilarious.

“I mean, people thought he was defending Postecoglou, I don’t believe that for one minute…

“I actually thought he went too far, it was too obvious, he was desperate for Tottenham to play exactly the same way as they played against Manchester United and they did – and Liverpool could have scored 10.”

Carragher is spot on in his assessment, the way Postecoglou set up his side played right into their hands.

Slot’s praise may have been an attempt to make Spurs play as they did against Manchester United in the EFL Cup quarter-final in the week (19 December).

The Australian isn’t one for change anyway, everyone knows that by now and those big wins against the likes of Manchester City and Aston Villa are to show for it.

Considering the makeshift defence that he has been forced to utilise, Postecoglou should have gone with a more pragmatic approach and attempted to frustrate the Reds.

The 59-year-old is under severe pressure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and it does not help his cause getting hammered at home, albeit by title contenders.

If he refuses to abandon his tactical principles, he may find himself out of a job sooner rather than later.
