Bayern meet with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy as Harry Kane talks ‘going in right direction’ – Sky Sport reporter

Bayern Munich bosses have met with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to discuss a deal for Harry Kane with talks “going in the right direction”, according to Sky Sport presenter Florian Plettenberg.

The Bundesliga champions have reportedly had two bids rejected for Kane, the second of which was worth around £80,500,000 (ESPN, 12 July).

Kane is out of contract next June, and is said to be reluctant to sign a new deal even though Spurs have offered fresh terms.

Plettenberg has now offered a new update on Bayern’s pursuit on Twitter.

“News #Kane: Yes, some Bayern bosses have visited Daniel #Levy in London yesterday – confirmed

“Understand it was a good meeting, good atmosphere.

“There is no breakthrough in the negotiations yet.

“But it is going in the right direction as reported.

“It was important for Bayern to show respect to Levy. Kane was informed of the visit of #FCBayern.”

This could actually happen

There has often been a conundrum surrounding Harry Kane and his commitment to Tottenham.

The England captain has never been anything but a full-blooded servant to his beloved Spurs and if he were to remain at the club he would surely eventually gun down Alan Shearer’s record for the most Premier League goals scored.

But the thing is, Kane’s loyalty has come at a cost. And the price he has paid is an empty trophy cabinet. If we’re being honest, a player of Kane’s calibre – by the age of 29 – should have a plethora of medals to look at.

Spurs, though, have never gotten over the line when it counts. There have been a few near misses, a couple of League Cup final defeats and a Champions League runners-up medal in 2019.

How long does Kane keep the clock ticking now, though? Since Mauricio Pochettino was sacked, Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Antonio Conte have all come and gone, and there is a serious rebuild job on the cards now for Ange Postecoglou.

What once felt unfeasible now feels like it could actually happen. At Bayern, Kane is almost guaranteed domestic medals such is Bayern’s dominance in Germany, and Thomas Tuchel has Champions League pedigree having won the trophy with Chelsea and finished up – coincidentally to Bayern – during his time at PSG.

Speaking of PSG, they are also said to be monitoring the situation (ESPN), which adds another interesting dynamic. If they enter the race and Kane tells Spurs he wants to leave, will Levy finally blink and accept a sale?

He wants £100m to make it happen apparently. It seems unlikely they will get that with only 12 months of his contract left, but Levy has proven in the past he can be a stubborn negotiator.
