Arsenal legend tells Tottenham to sack Ange Postecoglou amid ‘Miserable’ verdict

Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit says Ange Postecoglou deserves to be sacked by Tottenham after their defeat in the North London derby.

Spurs took the lead after 25 minutes at Emirates Stadium but ended up losing the game 2-1 with Dominic Solanke’s own goal and Leandro Trossard’s effort cancelling out Son Heung-min’s opener (15 January).

The defeat means the Lilywhites are without a win in five Premier League games which has left questions surrounding Postecoglou’s future in North London.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (15 January), Petit – a Premier League winner with Arsenal – admitted the end for the Australian could be in sight as he said: “I was watching Ange Postecoglou and he must be feeling really alone on the pitch tonight.

“I think things are probably coming to the end for him. I think that something has to change.

“We can see the league, we can see the faces of the players tonight on the pitch and they look so miserable, nobody looks like themselves.

“As I said, I think something has to change at Spurs so I think he will get the sack.

“Look at the players on the pitch, look at Son – he was amazing on the pitch for five years. Maddison this season – Maddison last year was such a great player, what has happened to him?

“Something is broken in this team and you can’t sack all of the players and so you have to make the easiest decision and that’s to sack the manager.

“I don’t like saying that and I feel for Postecoglou, but he deserves to be sacked because they’re going down game after game so change something.”

Ange Postecoglou under intense pressure at Tottenham

While Postecoglou has faced difficulty across the season with Spurs so far thanks to several key injuries to his side, there is no doubt that the levels produced by the squad have been inconsistent.

The Australian can get his side playing some great football that is exciting for supporters to watch but being unable to do so on a regular basis is undermining everything the manager is trying to achieve.

As Petit points out, there are a number of high-quality players in the Tottenham squad who are proving unable to perform to their expected levels and rather, are looking lost for ideas.

The Australian has been rather stubborn when it comes to style of play this term but his inability to adapt when necessary could be his downfall at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The clock is certainly ticking for the manager to turn things around in North London.
