Arsenal journalist blasts Daniel Levy over Tottenham manager sack

Tottenham chief Daniel Levy has been blasted by an Arsenal journalist over the uncertainty on the future of Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian is under severe pressure after a run of just two wins in the last ten matches in all competitions.

The Daily Mail reported on 28 December that the former Celtic man retains the backing of the board at the moment but results must improve.

Charles Watts, who has written for GOAL and CaughtOffside, was heavily critical of Levy in an article posted on his substack, saying: “It will be interesting to see if Daniel Levy sticks with Postecoglou. You just never know what he is going to do.

“I suppose when people ask what is wrong with Spurs, then Levy has to come into the conversation.
How many managers has he hired who have failed? The one real success story was Mauricio Pochettino and Levy booted him out soon after he had taken the club to a Champions League final because he felt he could get better.

“That didn’t pan out very well did it…”

Tottenham should give Postecoglou time

Chopping and changing managers every time something goes wrong is not going to bring the success that Spurs supporters are craving.

The club have not won a trophy since the League Cup victory in 2008 and if Levy is going to change that, he should stick by Postecoglou.

The Australian has been forced to deal with a brutal injury crisis this season, with Guglielmo Vicario, Christian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Richarlison among the seven first-team players ruled out through injury at the moment.

He is also yet to be properly backed in the transfer market, the only marquee addition last summer was the £65 million deal for Dominic Solanke, the rest of the Lilywhites signings were under-21 players.

He can be criticised for refusing to change his approach with the injuries in his squad, despite it clearly being too open but he should be given some leeway.

He should be backed in the January transfer window and allowed to build the squad that he needs for his exciting tactical philosophy to thrive.
