Postecoglou sack news at Tottenham shared at start of international break
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is under mounting pressure, and the situation became even worse when his side were beaten 2-0 by Fulham on Sunday.
Spurs’ defeat to Fulham marked their 15th of the Premier League season, with Postecoglou being questioned by Wayne Rooney for leaving stars such as Son Heung-min and James Maddison on the bench for the trip to Craven Cottage.
Tottenham have not managed a win in the Premier League since their 4-1 victory at Ipswich on 22 February, and now sit just 14th in the table.
But amid their domestic struggles, Spurs have reached quarter-finals of the Europa League, where they will meet Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.

Postecoglou’s Tottenham future depends on Europa League campaign
Spurs have endured a largely woeful domestic season, as alongside their Premier League struggles, they were also knocked out of the FA Cup in the early stages by Aston Villa, just three days on from suffering a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
Opponent | Result |
AZ Alkmaar (A) | 1-0 L |
Bournemouth (H) | 2-2 D |
AZ Alkmaar (H) | 3-1 W |
Fulham (A) | 2-0 L |
But Postecoglou remains in the Tottenham dugout while his side still have a chance of clinching silverware via the Europa League.
According to The Sun’s print edition [18 March, page 46], the Spurs boss is not thought to be at risk of losing his job during the current international break, but defeat in next month’s Europa League quarter-final with Frankfurt could see him handed the sack.
Tottenham have already set their sights on Fulham boss Marco Silva and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, in the event that Postecoglou is given the boot.

Frankfurt tie won’t be easy for Tottenham
The Europa League has been a saving grace for Postecoglou so far this term, amid Tottenham’s continued progress in the competition despite their continued domestic woes.
Spurs clinched their quarter-final tie with a convincing 3-1 win in the second leg of their last-16 tie with Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar, despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Maarten Martens’ men in the first leg.
But Frankfurt look set to provide Postecoglou’s side with the toughest test they have faced in the Europa League so far this campaign, as they sit fourth in the Bundesliga, level on points with third-place Mainz.
Dino Toppmoller’s side also won the Europa League as recently as 2022, and therefore know just what it takes to go all the way in the competition.
Tottenham could be in for a tough assignment against Frankfurt, which does not bode well for Postecoglou and his future with the North London giants.
