Ange Postecoglou to ‘lose Tottenham sack showdown’ with ‘dressing room lost’
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is set to lose his sack showdown if he loses the dressing room, Graeme Souness has said.
Writing in the print edition of Daily Mail Sport (page 4, 18 January), the former Liverpool man warned the Australian that his message is not getting across to his players.
However, he urged the former Celtic man not to vent his true feelings in public as he would lose more of the dressing room if he did so.
The former Scotland international claims in that case, Postecoglou would be sacked because it is financially easier to replace a manager rather than the playing squad.
Souness wrote: “You can’t say what you really want to say in public these days. Phrases like ‘unacceptable’ after a derby game are about as strong as you can probably go.
“It’s difficult because you’d like to vent your true feelings but do that and you lose some of the dressing room before, inevitably, losing all of the dressing room.
“If you lose the dressing room then it’s a straightforward money decision that the board have to make. Then it boils down to asset value, and if it’s down to losing a multi-million-pound squad or the manager, there’s only one winner.”
Should Tottenham sack Postecoglou?
There is no doubt that results have not been good enough for the Lilywhites so far this campaign.
Spurs find themselves in 14th place in the Premier League with just 24 points after 21 matches and have won just one of their last nine league games.
However, the Australian has been forced to utilise a makeshift defence for the majority of that period, with the likes of Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Christian Romero, Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies struggling with injuries.

Spurs have a favourable run of matches coming up with Everton, Leicester, and Brentford in the league and Hoffenheim and IF Elsborg in the Europa League before the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-finals against Liverpool.
Postecoglou should be afforded until at least after the latter, as he has the chance to guide the club to a first trophy since 2008 as his side hold a 1-0 lead from the first-leg.
If he fails to make the final, maybe then there will be a decision to be made on whether he is the right man to take Spurs forward.
