Ange Postecoglou shares Micky van de Ven injury update amid Tottenham absence

Ange Postecoglou has provided an injury update on Micky van de Ven as the Tottenham defender misses out against Brentford.

Van de Ven returned from injury in the 3-0 UEFA Europa League win against IF Elfsborg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (30 January), with some fans frustrated that the Dutchman started the match.

Therefore, van de Ven’s absence from the Tottenham team to take on Brentford in the Premier League at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday (2 February) will have sparked concern.

However, Postecoglou has confirmed the club are just managing his minutes, with the Spurs boss saying [via Nizaar Kinsella, 2 February], “We’re just trying to manage his minutes, it is a quick turnaround and I spoke with the medical team and Micky to give him another week of training to be ready in another week.”

Micky van de Ven misses out for Tottenham against Brentford

Van de Ven is one of Spurs’ most important players.

Therefore, fans would have been delighted to have him available again on Thursday, just as they would have been concerned after he missed out on the lineup on Sunday – especially after Postecoglou rushed the defender back previously, which led to further injury complications.

However, the Spurs boss’ update is an encouraging one, provided that it is an entirely accurate story of course.

While it would be strange for the Australian to lie, it also seems odd that van de Ven misses out on the squad entirely if the club are only trying to manage his minutes.

However, all fans can do is wait and see how the situation unfolds, and hope that the centre-back is fit enough to play a part in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday (6 February).
