Ange Postecoglou sack update emerges ahead of Chelsea v Tottenham

Tottenham travel to Chelsea in the Premier League on Thursday evening with a fresh update on Ange Postecoglou’s future emerging ahead of kick off.

Spurs will make the short trip across London to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 3 April.

Postecoglou is expected to make six Tottenham changes from the 2-0 Premier League defeat against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday, 16 March.

Ahead of a clash which many Spurs fans are likely to be dreading, considering their record at Stamford Bridge, Paul Merson has shared his verdict, as an update now emerges on whether Postecoglou could be sacked should his side suffer their 16th league defeat of the season in West London.

Postecoglou sack timeline emerges at Tottenham

As he seeks to turn things around in North London, Postecoglou could make the brave decision to drop Son Heung-min for the clash at Chelsea.

The Australian needs to do something special to save his job at Tottenham, and a rare win at Stamford Bridge could be a step in the right direction.

Daniel Levy is already expected to save money should he sack Postecoglou after an agreement at Tottenham. Therefore, the 59-year-old won’t want to give the Spurs chairman any further encouragement.

In response to a tweet which suggested that Postecoglou would be sacked if Spurs suffer a heavy defeat against Chelsea, reliable insider Paul O Keefe responded (3 April) by saying, “They’re not going to sack him before the quarter final. Summer or when out of Europe League if it’s to be earlier”.

Postecoglou is hanging on by a thread at Tottenham

It is looking increasingly likely that Postecoglou will be sacked by Tottenham, with the Spurs boss himself even suggesting he would like to see Mauricio Pochettino return to North London. As a result, it feels as though every game is now a must-win, particularly in the UEFA Europa League.

Postecoglou’s fate could be decided by Spurs’ progress in the Europa League

While a defeat at Chelsea might not be the final nail in the coffin, it could shatter the players’ confidence ahead of their crunch clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.

As a result, Postecoglou cannot afford for this to happen.
