Ange Postecoglou sack: Ryan Mason news emerges at Tottenham after loss v Wolves

Tottenham have a decision to make regarding Ange Postecoglou after yet another Premier League defeat against Wolves on Sunday.

Spurs succumbed to a 4-2 loss against Wolves at the Molineux Stadium on 13 April. It was their 17th Premier League defeat of the season, meaning they have now lost as many matches as Burnley did when they were relegated three years ago.

Therefore, there is a strong case to be made about Postecoglou being sacked as Tottenham’s manager, even though the North London giants are still active in the UEFA Europa League.

Spurs’ hopes of any success this season depend on the Europa League and they must decide if the Greek-Australian manager is the right person to lead them in the second leg of their quarter-final tie against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany on Thursday (14 April) after playing out a 1-1 draw at home in the first leg.

Ryan Mason latest at Tottenham emerges

Ryan Mason would be the obvious choice to hold the fort until the end of the season if Tottenham decide to sack Postecoglou now, having served as their caretaker manager twice before.

Daniel Storey of The i is certain that it is only a matter of time before Postecoglou is fired and feels he is lucky to have survived this long.

However, the journalist suggested that Spurs are reluctant to appoint Mason as their interim manager for a third time.

Assessing Postecoglou’s future at Spurs, Storey wrote on The i‘s website (14 April): “It’s going to end soon. It is already ending, so scorched has the earth become.

“Tottenham have a Europa League tie in Frankfurt on Thursday night and Ange Postecoglou is lucky to be in charge for it.

“Even that is surely only because Spurs would prefer not to turn to Ryan Mason for yet another caretaker stint.”

Spurs to decide on Postecoglou after Eintracht Frankfurt clash

There are no indications that Tottenham will sack Postecoglou before Thursday’s trip to Frankfurt.

However, the result of the Europa League tie is almost certain to determine the former Celtic manager’s future in North London.

It would not be a surprise if Daniel Levy pulled the plug on Postecoglou if Spurs lose against Eintracht Frankfurt.

It is improbable that Postecoglou will survive as the Tottenham manager without taking them further in the Europa League.
