Ange Postecoglou sack: Jamie Redknapp reacts to Tottenham decision

Jamie Redknapp has given his verdict on Ange Postecoglou’s future and why Tottenham are yet to sack him.

Spurs find themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League in February, which is undoubtedly a cause for concern.

However, Daniel Levy and the other decision makers at the club have decided to stick with the Australian.

Tottenham still have the chance to win the Europa League under Ange Postecoglou

While their domestic performances have been underwhelming, to say the least, they still have a shot to win silverware.

They got knocked out of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup in the same week and the chance of qualifying for Europe next season via the league remains a pipe dream.

However, they can still qualify for the Champions League if Postecoglou can somehow turn things around and make them win the Europa League.

When asked about his thoughts on the club not sacking him, Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports Premier League: “I think purely because of the Europa League. I think the performance against Liverpool was the most disappointing to see the team go out with such a lack of fight in the final of a cup.

“I thought he might be surplus to requirements because you go through Daniel Levy’s history of sacking managers. He doesn’t mess around. It’s still incredibly disappointing.”

Daniel Levy may be giving Ange Postecoglou time until May

Postecoglou appears to have been granted a stay of execution until the end of the season, but failure to improve by May will likely see him depart.

Despite the team’s dismal Premier League position in February and their elimination from both domestic cups, Levy and the club’s hierarchy have opted to retain the Australian, likely due to their lingering hopes in the Europa League.

Redknapp suggests this competition is the primary reason for his continued tenure, as a trophy and Champions League qualification remain possible.

However, Levy’s history of decisive managerial changes and his focus on financial gain indicate that Postecoglou’s future hinges on results.

The Champions League, with its lucrative revenue streams, is a priority for Levy, and failure to secure it, either through the Europa League or a miraculous league turnaround, will almost certainly lead to Postecoglou’s exit.

If Spurs’ performances remain underwhelming and financial targets are missed, Levy’s patience will run out, and Postecoglou is not expected to be at the helm next season.
