Ange Postecoglou sack: David Ornstein shares update on new Tottenham manager

Ange Postecoglou is facing the heat at Tottenham after a disastrous 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

The majority of the fans appear to have turned on the Australian given how poorly the team have fared this term.

There remains the possibility of Spurs finishing as low as 17th come the end of the season as West Ham, who sit just above the relegation zone, are only two points behind them.

David Ornstein: Postecoglou unlikely to be Spurs manager next season

David Ornstein, in his Athletic Q&A column, admitted that the Australian is under tremendous pressure at the North London club.

He acknowledged links to Andoni Iraola, Oliver Glasner, Marco Silva, and Thomas Frank and admitted that there would be more should there be a vacancy.

Before the game against Frankfurt, Ornstein wrote: “It doesn’t feel like a fair discussion on matchday, Parva, but we can all see Postecoglou is under massive pressure and a change this summer looks highly possible.

Spurs look destined to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League

“Spurs have been so focused on their European campaign that we’re assured no potential replacements have been spoken to, and there definitely doesn’t seem to be a process underway.

“It means that while there will naturally be some names favoured among the club hierarchy, there probably isn’t a clear favourite at this point.

“Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva, Thomas Frank and Oliver Glasner have all been mentioned in reports — and no doubt there will be more, should a vacancy of this level arise.”

Tottenham must target Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi

Tottenham must aim higher than managers like Marco Silva or Thomas Frank and pursue a bold appointment like Simone Inzaghi to restore their status as a top club.

While Silva has stabilised Fulham and Frank has Brentford punching above their weight, neither has the pedigree to deliver trophies or Champions League football, which Spurs crave.

Inzaghi, Inter Milan’s manager, has proven his elite credentials, winning the 2023-24 Serie A title and reaching the 2023 Champions League final with a dynamic, possession-based 3-5-2 system that could suit Spurs’ squad, including players like Son Heung-min and James Maddison.

His ability to blend attacking flair with defensive resilience, Inter conceded just 22 goals in 38 league games last season, offers the consistency Spurs lack under Postecoglou.

The Italian’s experience in high-stakes European competitions aligns with Spurs’ ambitions, and his knack for developing young talent could maximise players like Destiny Udogie.

Though luring Inzaghi from Inter is ambitious, Spurs’ new stadium and financial muscle make it feasible.

A bold move for a proven winner like Inzaghi signals intent and could reignite the club’s trajectory toward silverware and elite status.
