Ange Postecoglou ‘one step closer’ to Tottenham sack after what he did v Chelsea

Ange Postecoglou is under increasing sack pressure after Tottenham lost to Chelsea in the Premier League on Thursday.

Stamford Bridge hosted Spurs on 3 April, with the visitors extending their winless run to four games in the English top flight.

Enzo Fernandez gave Enzo Maresca’s team the lead in the 50th minute as the North London outfit were caught out defensively, especially Micky van de Ven.

Pape Matar Sarr thought he had equalised for the Lilywhites at around the 70th-minute mark, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR review, and Postecoglou’s actions during that period were telling.

Tottenham exit on cards after Postecoglou antagonises fans in Chelsea loss

Postecoglou has taken a step closer to the exit door at Spurs after cupping his ears at the direction of his own supporters, Stan Collymore says.

The former Liverpool ace believes the Australian manager’s sacking has only become more realistic after his actions before Sarr’s goal was eventually ruled out.

Collymore feels the former Celtic boss didn’t do himself any favours and has only made himself more unpopular.

The ex-forward wrote in CaughtOffside (4 April): “The main takeaway from last night’s match between Chelsea and Tottenham was Ange Postecoglou cupping his ears in the direction of his own supporters after the Pape Sarr goal that was eventually ruled out by VAR.

“In doing that, he has probably taken one more step towards the exit door. By doing something like that, he is making himself increasingly unpopular.”

Daniel Levy to make inevitable Postecoglou decision at Spurs soon

It’s surprising that Daniel Levy hasn’t sacked Postecoglou yet despite the poor performances at the North London outfit this season.

The Lilywhites’ chairman has historically had little patience for head coaches who haven’t been able to get the best out of the team.

While the Australian manager has been marred by injuries this season, most of the players have returned to action in recent matches, but there hasn’t been an upturn in form.

Tottenham are still alive in the Europa League, and Levy may be waiting to see what Postecoglou will be able to do in the competition.

If the former Celtic boss manages to win the European title in Bilbao this season, he will arguably cement his place in the history books.

Winning silverware by the end of the season seems the only way Postecoglou can potentially last at the North London outfit.

The Australian manager has some crunch fixtures against Eintracht Frankfurt coming up, which may determine his future.
